Vertical Horizons was a conceptual design project exploring how inspiration can be drawn from unexpected sources and translated into meaningful garden spaces. The final design emerged from a study of Hong Kong's high-rise architecture, particularly the dramatic perspectives created when looking skyward between densely packed buildings.

The brief was to create a shared courtyard garden for two urban apartments; a space that felt beautiful, useful and restorative within a compact footprint. Rather than treating the surrounding architecture as something to escape from, the design embraces the experience of city living and reinterprets it through landscape.

At the heart of the scheme, a cruciform reflecting pool brings the sky down to ground level, becoming both the visual and symbolic centre of the garden. Layered terraces, sculptural concrete planters and carefully framed views create a sequence of spaces for socialising, quiet reflection and informal working. Lush, architectural planting softens the harder materials, creating a deliberate balance between urban structure and natural vitality.
